School Committee Record Book, 1859 - 1894
Scope and Contents
Meetings of the school committee include the election of officers, appointments of truant officers, lists of teachers employed during each term and the schools assigned to them, a list of books recommended for teaching, salaries, expenditures, appropriations, budgets, recommendations, resignations, etc.
Also included is a list of children in Southborough who were between 5 and 15 years of age on May 1st 1875, a copy of the deed from Henry H. Peters, Esq. to the Inhabitants of Southborough conveying to them and their successors the Peters High School building and the land connected with the same, and copies of Ch. 206 of Massachusetts General Laws (1857) stating that teachers should be competent to give instruction in Greek, French, Astronomy, Geology, Rhetoric, and other areas of study.

Preservation Actions
This volume underwent conservation treatment in October 2007 at Brown’s River Records Preservation Services in Essex, Vermont (now Kofile Inc.).
Treatment Summary:
Book dismantled and binding materials removed. Paper mended with Japanese tissue or Crompton heat set tissue. Paper deacidified using magnesium oxide. Book resewn and bound in Hewit vegetable tanned goatskin and acid-free materials.
