Scope and Contents
These ledgers provide a record of all tests and inspections performed by the Sealer of Weights and Measures in Southborough from 1908-1940 and 1950-1965. Each entry includes the name of the business being inspected or it’s proprietor, the type of business (i.e. Ice Delivery, Milk Delivery, Gasoline Station, Dairy, Grocery Store, Bakery, Butcher), and its address. For each business the Sealer recorded the quantity of platform scales over 5,000 pounds, platform scales under 5,000 pounds, computing scales, all other scales, weights, dry measures, liquid measures, linear measures, automatic measuring devices, and milk or oil jars (if applicable). Certification notes such as adjusting charges, sealing fees, total amount owed, date paid, and additional remarks are also recorded.
