Scope and Contents

Over the years the Southborough Town Clerk’s Office has collected a variety of state and federal government publications which relate to its operations. This library includes materials collected by the town as early as 1799, and is chiefly composed of congressional reports and published laws.

This collection is open for research. Whenever possible, digital surrogates must be consulted in lieu of the original documents to prevent unneccesary handling and mitigate wear. Government Publications are divided into two series and eleven sub-series:

Series 1: Publications of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (1822-1940)

  • Report of the Agriculture of Massachusetts (1838)
  • List of Alien Passengers Bonded for the use of the Overseers of the Poor (1851)
  • Reports to the Legislature of Massachusetts relating to the Registry and Returns of Births, Marriages, and Deaths (1848-1851)
  • Reports and Abstracts of the Massachusetts Legislature (1848-1852)
  • Digest of Military Laws of Massachusetts (1840-1851)
  • Report of the State Lunatic Hospital (1864)
  • Notes on United States Citizenship for the use of Town Clerks and Election Commissioners (1931-1940)

  • Series 2: Publications of the United States Government (1799-1845)

  • Acts and Resolves of Congress (1799-1845)
  • State Papers and Public Documents of the United States (1806-1808)
  • Address to the House of Representatives (1812)

  • Within each series, materials are organized chronologically.
