Ledger Listing Paupers and Distribution of Aid, 1828 - 1831
Scope and Contents
This ledger includes petitions for help and support from impoverished townspeople, and documents funds used to cover the boarding, clothing, doctoring, and nursing of various paupers in the town of Southborough. It also includes records of placements, as paupers were sometimes "disposed of to the highest bidder" and people in the town agreed to pay a weekly or annual sum for their care.
