4) “Brethren and Neighbors: being informed that you are met together to do something to make my salary good with respect to the fall of bills, this is to propose to you that for the prevention of a yearly debate on this matter and any uneasiness that may arise thereby, as also from ye consideration of the great charge the town is at to pay the country’s and schoolmaster’s rates, I will accept of five pounds a year for three years for ye fall of bills, though I suppose much more might be justly required on that account. Postscript: If any are of the mind to pay their rates to me in work, I will readily take it in that way and leave it to any indifferent persons to judge the worth of their work”. Signed by Rev.
